Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is often marketed as the gold standard for real-time location. And yes — it’s powerful, accurate to the centimeter, and fast.
But here’s what DynaWo has learnt after years of experience:
You don’t need UWB everywhere. In fact, in some use cases, it can be too complicated, expensive, ineffective, and simply not the best choice.
Let’s break it down.
There is a myth “UWB is the best RTLS tech.” But the reality is: UWB is just one tool in a much broader toolbox.
Every positioning technology — whether it’s UWB, BLE, or GPS — shines brightest when its’ advantages are aligned with the unique goal of the use-case at hand.
UWB is known for its high accuracy, and with DynaWo’s mesh system, we’ve addressed traditional challenges like complex infrastructure and limited range — making it both precise and easy to deploy. In certain use cases, such as critical safety zones in factories, surgical tray tracking in operating rooms, or autonomous robots requiring sub-meter precision – every centimeter matters – and UWB shines.
However, in other environments, Bluetooth or GPS would be a better fit. Consider the following:
- If you’re tracking forklifts across a wide yard outdoors, leveraging GPS technology would be optimal.
- If you’re zoning indoor areas (like gym equipment or meeting rooms), centimeter accuracy may be unnecessary here.
- If you’re checking in with hospital personnel at the room level, a BLE beacon gets the job done at a much lower cost.
DynaWo approach is to use what’s simplest, most cost-effective, and works best. We don’t start with the sensors — we start with the use case.
What are you trying to achieve? What insights do you actually need?
Then we design the RTLS system to support those goals — nothing more, nothing less.
Then we design a system that’s:
- Technically efficient,
- Operationally streamlined,
- Cost-effective for rollout,
- Future-proof for scalability.
DynaWo’s platform supports multiple RTLS technologies — UWB, BLE, GPS, and more — but we only deploy what’s necessary for the real-world scenario at hand.
Because the most valuable RTLS system is the one people make the best use of all its functionalities.
Want to know if UWB makes sense for your environment? Or if there’s a smarter way to achieve your goals?
