How RTLS Improves Data Center Efficiency and Safety

Data centers are the backbone infrastructures behind our modern society and play a key role in our digital way of life. Given their critical importance, security and safety are top priorities in data center management and operation, both on physical and digital assets.

Fire suppression in data centers is critical to protect IT assets, prevent downtime and ensure business continuity. Unlike most common scenarios, gas-based fire suppression systems are typically used in data centers, and extremely efficient at quickly covering large spaces, preventing electrical damage, and minimizing device downtime.

However, personnel safety must be considered in real-world operations. Data centers are operational 24/7, but gas-based fire suppression systems can pose dangers to employees working inside. It’s crucial that all employees are out of the room before the fire suppression system is activated, which can be overly time-consuming due to several factors:

  • Noise levels — Data centers are loud environments, and employees often work with ear protection, making it difficult to hear alarms.
  • Large spaces — Data centers are huge. It takes time for employees for employees to evacuate – or for those left inside to be located.
  • Accurate headcount — The process of ensuring that all employees are safe and accounted for is critical, yet often time consuming – room for human error could yield disastrous consequences.

This is where Real-time Locating System (RTLS) can significantly improve efficiency and reduce the time required to confirm people’s safety before deploying the fire suppression system.

  • BLE badge trackers provide room-level accuracy, offering real-time position data that automatically counts employees in both the safe zone and the danger area. With this information, it becomes easier to identify employees still in the danger zone.
  • With the added feature of a button press on the BLE badge, employees can actively confirm their safety when they reach the safe zone, providing an extra layer of verification.
  • Additional BLE door and presence sensors further enhance the system’s efficiency by providing environmental checks.
  • Employee can also request help with the press of a button when in danger, such as if they are locked in restricted area.

DynaWo Locating offers a comprehensive suite of RTLS products and software, incorporating multiple locating technologies to support a range of applications and use cases across various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, airports, retail, and construction sites.

We also provide data APIs and a data platform at the software level, enabling the rapid development of applications for end-users and creating business value through location-based insights.

We are always open to collaborating with customers on specific use cases, ensuring we choose the most suitable technology for each target scenario.
